Emile's Supermoon

For those of you who have read America’s Junior Miss, you may recall that the Young Miss pageant occurs on the night of June 22, 2013 and the appearance of a supermoon later that night plays a pivotal role in resolving our hero’s conflicts.

What is a supermoon, anyway?

Technically, it’s the coincidence of a full moon or a new moon with the closest approach the Moon makes to the Earth on its elliptical orbit, resulting in the largest apparent size of the moon’s disk as seen from Earth.

In our case, the supermoon coincides with a full moon, and the moon will actually reach full on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at 11:33 am GMT. If you view the night sky on either Saturday or Sunday, the moon should look spectacular!

Here’s a chart for the schedule of supermoons through 2100.
